Guitar Hero World Tour With Downloads But Still No Wii Hard Drive
Wii owners rejoiced as Activision announced Guitar Hero World Tour. What really had Wii and Guitar Hero crazed fans excited was Activision's confirmation that they will sport the Wii version of Guitar Hero Wold Tour with downloads – but still no Wii hard drive is what leaves the Nintendo community scratching their heads.
Update: Guitar Hero World Tour video preview added to the end of this article.
Yes, the Wii has a wimpy 512mb internal storage for saving game content that also gets eroded away when adding channels and other fun stuff. Yes, the Wii has SD card support – the same cards that go into digital cameras – but Nintendo has not opened the ability to play games or content directly from them.
Does Activision Have Inside Information For The Guitar Hero World Tour With Downloads?
Many publishers have made their concern known about the lack of Nintendo's hard drive in the Wii. Even though Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the Sony Playstation 3 have a hard drive that make the gamer experience more pleasurable for games the likes of Activision's Guitar Hero and Harmonix Rock Band.
Even so, Nintendo has been mum on any solution to the hindrance (read: annoyance) at this point. So this leads to the question of Activision possibly having an inside nudge from Nintendo juggernaut about what is to come?
Activision is touting Guitar Hero World Tour as
“the first game ever in the Guitar Hero franchise to allow in-game downloadable content on Wii.”
Afterall, Nintendo has no reason to thank Harmonix and their Rock Band product for helping the Wii being tops on the Christmas sales chart in 2007. Guitar Hero was the saving grace for musician wannabes foaming at the mouth during Christmas time.
This could be the first game in ages that has parents playing as much as kids; even better with their kids. Take this dad we found on YouTube. Viewer beware, dad has no shirt.
Harmonix Still Stiff-Arming Nintendo Wii Fans
Christmas 2007 behind, Harmonix was flip-flop on weather Rock Band would see the light of day on the Wii. Then Harmonix announces that Rock Band will be coming to the Wii on June 22nd 2008, but you guessed it, ported with the lack of downloadable tracks that has made the revolutionary game even more addicting on Xbox 360 and the PS3.
Harmonix explains:
”the Wii's online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized, [and] we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for Rock Band to ensure that players get the high-quality of online performance they've come to expect."
Let's translate this corporate statement into:
”Nintendo, get serious about game developmers and publishers like Harmonix. We mean, seriously, we are throwing you a bone by even allowing Rock Band to grace your console.”
Wii Holiday 2008
This should be an interesting 2008 Christmas from the folks at Nintendo, and Activision Guitar Hero World Tour announcement of downloadable songs and content could be a foreshadowing of what might be for the Nintendo Wii.
Give me rock band instead.

Nintendo knows what they are doing. Does anyone really care that they don't have a DVD drive on the Wii. Saved them a headache from even considering to engage in the High-Def dvd format war.
